Our Curation Process

Curation Process

How a piece earns its listing

We reject more lighting than we list. Here is exactly how we decide what makes it into the Auria House catalogue — and what doesn't.

Most lighting retailers work one way: a catalogue comes in, the pieces get uploaded, the photos are styled, and the listings go live. The goal is volume. The test is whether something sells.

We work the other way. A piece has to survive six distinct checks before it gets a listing. If it fails any one of them, it doesn't make the cut — regardless of how well it photographs, how low the cost price is, or how popular it might be elsewhere.

01

Design integrity

The first question is the simplest: is this piece well-designed? Not trendy. Not viral. Well-designed. We look at proportion, material choice, how the piece reads from three metres away, and whether it will still feel right in five years. If it reads as a copy of something else, we move on.

02

Technical specification

Before anything else, we request the full technical data: colour temperature in Kelvin, lumens, IP rating, bulb fitting type, voltage compatibility, dimmer type. If the supplier cannot produce these numbers, the conversation ends there. A lighting brand that doesn't know its own specifications is not a brand we want to represent.

03

UK standards compliance

Every piece must run on 220–240V UK mains and carry CE or UKCA marking. Bathroom pieces must be IP44 minimum, outdoor pieces IP65 or higher. If the product ships with a European plug, we confirm it's replaceable with a UK-compliant alternative before we list it.

04

Build quality inspection

We request a physical sample wherever possible. We check the weight, the finish consistency, the quality of the socket, the thickness of the cable, and whether any visible solder joints are clean. We also test dimmer behaviour — trailing edge vs leading edge — and note the result for the listing.

05

Price-to-value ratio

Auria House sits in the £80–£300 range for a reason: it's the sweet spot where you can have genuinely good design without paying for a name. Every piece has to justify its price against that benchmark. If it's overpriced for what it delivers, it doesn't make it. If it's suspiciously cheap, we investigate why before listing.

06

Listing honesty

Only after all five previous steps do we write the listing. Every product page tells you exactly what the piece is, how it behaves, and what it requires — no embellishment, no stock photography lifted from the supplier. If we wouldn't put it in our own home, we don't describe it as if we would.

A good listing tells you what a piece is. A great listing tells you whether it's right for you.

You see fewer pieces — because the rest didn't pass

If you have ever browsed a lighting site with thousands of products and come away more confused than when you started, you already understand the problem. Most catalogues are optimised for search volume, not for the person at the other end of the screen trying to choose.

Auria House is optimised for the choice. We show you fewer pieces, but every one of them has been through the process above. When you click a product, you are not wondering whether it's any good — you are deciding whether it's right for your room.

That is the whole proposition. Less browsing. More confidence. A catalogue you can actually finish reading.
